Please note that the Russian and English versions have been done at different times and partly by different people and thus are not fully parallel. Please read both if you have a strong practical interest in what we do. Presently the English side is more up-to-date. Check back soon because we are actively working on this site.

This little site is about our attempt to establish ourselves as farmers in the Staritsa district, Tver region, between Moscow and St. Petersburg.

It will be of interest to those who want to participate in the project, or just want to see what rural and small-town Russia is like. For a preview of what Staritsa and the surrounding land is like see the Horseback Rides page that has lots of photos. The Moscow to St. Petersburg trip page also has lots of pictures and conveys the overall feel of the place.

This project not just about agriculture, but about restoring the institute of country estate. Through most of Russia's civilized history country estates combined  urban culture and rural tranquility, resulting in a significant intellectual output. [bull something pathetic to the effect that such bright representatives of the Russian renaissance as Pushkin, Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, Tchaikovsky etc. could only have originated in the world of Russian country estate]
