There you will read -

- About us

- Our animals and the entire household. We are not a horse rental establishment and our animals are slightly overfed pets, which favourably sets us apart from riding stables.

Moonie. An orally sadistic personality, i.e. she'll miss no opportunity to nibble at you.

Sur (officially short of "Surprise" but in popular understanding his name stands for "Surreal"). A young stallion, a real racing horse,
a source of trouble and adventure. Sees ghosts and believes that bushes and fallen lamp poles eat equines. Or at least did till Uncle Pasha personally had a series of talks with him in the winter of 2002-2003.

Spets

Vint
("screw"). A digital camera is one of the very few things that tames him. A vicious dog who decorated a couple of us who risked to inspect what he was eating.

Romashka ("Camomile"). An ideal trail horse: strong, careful, conservative, independent, unperturbed etc.. But she has her own vision of things, and riders she does not like will be asked to leave her back by a series of bumps of increasing intensity coupled with small side steps. So you end up sliding down rather than falling...

[trail photo - the one of a riding party crossing the Volga?]

Animals are in good athletic shape. Romashka easily makes 50km (30miles) per day on daily basis and is considered fit for endurance type riding. Sur will do about the same under a fairly light rider. Spets is out of shape (30km or 20mils/day is about the most he can do) but he will easily carry a rider up to 100kg (220lbs). -As of May 2003

- Riding lessons

horses13.jpg (23180 bytes)

Lessons start with a series of exercises designed to make you feel comfortable with the animal.

How to take care of the horse, field riding, a special intensive no-bull approach for those who have a fear of horses.. We teach practical things like harnessing the horse, hoof care, proper feeding and watering, how to calm a panicking animal etc.

<== An old peasant teaching young travellers how to harness a horse.

 - About the area

Miles and miles of fields, hills, forests. Yet you will not get lost because of the Volga on the one side and a highway on the other. Just doesn't get any better for field rides.  Horses know the area well and will always be happy to take you back home.

And you will see
none of this ==>

- And the city of Staritsa

The city of Staritsa could be an jewel of the Golden Ring if it was better kept. Of all cities I've seen this one best managed to preserve its historic character through decades of communism yet without turning into a museum, the fate that befell, eg. Suzdal. If you are considering either a Golden Ring or a Trans-Siberian trip, we recommend travel between Moscow and St. Petersburg as an option that will give you both perspectives.

- How to get here

In good weather you can drive right up to our house. If not, secure parking is available in the city. A bus will get you to Staritsa from Moscow (3-4 hours) and an train will get you here from St. Petersburg (6 hours). A car ride can be arranged.

- Living arrangements

Everything available, including bathing facilities, minimalist style.

- Prices and discounts

Want to stay here longer? Enjoy quiet surroundings? Come over in the winter, or when the weather is bad, or on working days. No money? Make your input with your head and your hands. Ask about working holidays.

<==This is an example of our guests participating in collecting garbage along the Volga, in appreciation of which we give them major discounts. Another guest laying walkways..

We are NOT a horse rental establishment. Not a typical one at any rate.
Quiet and vеry inexpensive. Also rafting down the Volga, sleigh rides in the winter, caving, target bow shooting..
